JOSHUA AARON MICHAEL WELTON, born in Chicago, Illinois, is the second oldest of six boys. He and his wife, Hannah, have 3 children; Azaria, Sovereign & Genesis.
As a solo artist/musician, Joshua was signed to Sony/Columbia Records, and he became a member of BET’s group Fatty Koo (2005) and starred in the hit reality television show Blowin’ Up Fatty Koo. Uniting in marriage, Joshua and Hannah were discovered by the late PRINCE in 2012. Hannah became a vocalist and drummer for Prince and his band, 3RDEYEGIRL. Simultaneously, Joshua had the privilege to be mentored and learn from Prince, personally.
As a result, Joshua was grammy nominated and co-produced 2 albums with Prince, becoming the only producer in history to share the, "Produced, Arranged, Composed, Per4med" credit with Prince.
Now a reverend, Joshua has a heart and passion for community and justice. Thus, The Purple Movement was birthed. He and his wife believe that the time for change is now. New legislative changes of justice, peace, and reconciliation need to be put in place. In the words of the late Prince, “The system is broken. It’s going to take the young people to fix it this time. We need new ideas, new life…” – Prince
Inspired by God, Joshua feels the need to speak up and empower others to not only cry for change but be the change. The Purple Movement, a salute to the beloved Purple One, Joshua feels the innate responsibility to help continue the social justice legacy of Prince.
Ultimately, Joshua's heart for God drives him to bring about life, peace, and justice for all.
"I know it may feel like reconciliation and equality for our nation is impossible. But I firmly believe, with God, all things are possible." - Joshua
